Cheesebox

Cheesebox is a nice technical canyon in southwest Utah. You definitively need to carry a rope, and be prepared to set up anchors at some sections (you may use some old ones if you trust those). So, carry also an extra webbing, dry bags, harness and belay device. A wet suit is a must - the water was freezing!!! but we did explore this canyon in late November. I read reports about not using wet suit in the mid summer when temperatures were above 100F.
Cheesebox canyon is a tributary of White Canyon, and is located on Highway 95 between Natural Bridges and Hite Marina on Lake Powel. You will need two vehicles, one at the start and the other at the end.
To get to the start, drive on Highway 95 to milepost 66, and turn on a dirt road at Soldier Crossing. The road is listed as Found Mesa Road on on Utah Atlas. Drive 10.7 miles along this dirt road.
Great description of this canyon can be found in Canyon Hiking Guide to the Colorado Plateau by Michael Kelsey.

Just curious ...

What's a good brand of cheese to carry in your backpack while
exploring Cheesebox Canyon ???

Do you recommend a "hard cheese" made from ewe milk, or a softer
cheese made here in the Americas ???

Re: Just curious ...

Larry, I like stinky cheese...
I guess hard is better, more water resistant...

Re: Just curious ...

Somebody offered me Roquefort one time, and I had to politely
turn it down. Thanks for this "cheesy" discussion!

Re: Just curious ...

France has 264+ varieties of cheese alone.

Re: Just curious ...

Talking of cheese and beverages :), I remember times – namely 1970-80's in Poland – when you had to buy a piece of cheese if you felt like having a beer in a bar at the railway station (that was supposed to be an attempt to prevent the people drinking too much, in seriousness).

Re: Just curious ...

really? and I would think that cheese would make you more thirsty and you would drink more... we had a beer flavored cheese in the Czech Republic.

Re: Just curious ...

Well, you were allowed to buy something more expensive (if there was anything on the menu but beer and cheese) but you had to buy a snack to get a pint. Talking of stinking cheese:), one memorable type I've tried was a Czech product called "Krkonossky pivny syr" – as the name suggests (Beer Cheese from the Giant Mts, Larry) you just have to buy a pint to manage it! :D

Re: Just curious ...

That's the problem! I don't know HOW to "manage" myself when it comes to cheese and whatever types of beverages they serve inside the establishment. : ))

I suppose I'd want my cheese to come with some type of Italian
pasta cooked in wine, so I can have the BEST of both worlds!

Geez, just succeeded in making myself hungry again !!! : (

Re: Just curious ...

I had this cheese sandwich in Annecy, and they put honey on it. It was so good...I am starting to salivate...Good appetite, Larry.

Re: Just curious ...

Bon Appetit !!!

I never visited Annecy, but I remember tasting good cheese when I
visited Le Harve in 1976.

It was so fresh and delicious! (I'm talking about the cheese).

great pics

Great pics, I´d like to try this canyon sometime. My schedule is somewhat limited, but let me know if you´d be interested in checking out some more this year. Robber´s Roost perhaps?
