We ascended the SW Ridge and descended the Lavender Col route. From above, the route finding on the Lavender Col descent can be a little tricky. We took the variation shown in the photo (solid line). It consisted of descending the gully just south of the standard SE couloir, until the gully cliffs out. From there, one can traverse (cl.3) to the SE couloir and descend as usual. This variation has the advantage of avoiding the snow shown here that was in the couloir on July 20, 2004. Roach describes this varation in Colorado Fourteeners.

Hasn't voted | Well, I spent seven years in California, so RR was never on my radar. But now we're moving to Houston, so I"m desperately researching escape routes, so to speak. Lots of daily flights--easy to leave friday night, climb saturday and sunday, return sunday night.
When does the heat become bearable at RR? | | Posted Jul 24, 2004 3:44 pm |
