View of the trail in (marked by the posts for about half the climb) shows that you hike in largely on cinders/lava that has trapped and insulated snow underneath, probably from the February, 2000 eruption.

Yeah, I had to laugh a few times..............until I ran into crappy visibility on a later peak and could not see the next post. Ended up spending a night in a lava bed on that one. That page and story to come in a couple weeks.................



At least the posts only were on about the first 1/3 to 1/2 of this route. They ended where the real mountain began.
