I guess that is a glacier? Hard to tell in the photo.

Looked like the remnants of an avalanche to me. The elevation here was no more than 10500 ft or so, too low for a glacier in Iran, but then again it looks like this area does not get much sunshine and if you get a few avalanches in this very same spot year after year, you might end up with a mini glacier.
