Watch out for rattlesnakes on this hike, I nearly stepped on this guy at about 5700 ft elevation - August, 2004.

How big what that western rattlesnake? We have them out here in Colorado but I've never seen one. That must have got the 'ol adrenalin a pumping!

It was an interesting encounter, we just stared at each other for about 4 or 5 minutes (while i snapped a few photos), then he slowly started to slither away. I would say he was roughly 14 to 16 inches long. He (or she) didn't even make any rattling noises. It was a pretty casual meeting.

nice shot.

had a similar encounter in leavenworth, WA this summer.........except in our case, the thing was rattling away and assuming the striking poise.
