Camping on Pico de La Cruz

El Bastón is an amazing long distance hiking trail, but there is a screaming lack of accommodation options along the trail. Officially, wild camping is not allowed, but there's just no feasible alternative. I reckoned that the rule wouldn't be enforced as long as you're out of sight of Roque de las Muchachos and the many astronomical observatories, so I pitched my tent almost on top of Pico de La Cruz. At night, a big westerly storm came over the island. Not unusual on La Palma, I found out later. I felt I had to get out of my tent, to pitch a few more lines, because I didn't really fancy being blown into the crater a drop of 1000 m! See my El bastón trip report for more.
