Pre-eruption Mt. St. Helens from the south

Pre-eruption Mt. St. Helens from the south

Pre-eruption Mt. St. Helens in 1977 from the south. This side of the mountain was seldom climbed before the eruption. Now the old popular routes are in the air on the north side. The currently most popular routes, Monitor Ridge and Worm Flows, are fully visible in this photo, center and right of center respectively.

Beautiful picture of a beautiful mountain

St. Helens pre eruption was one of the most beautiful mountains on earth. A dream mountain in many ways and fun to climb (via dogs head route) with some sweet glissades.

Re: Beautiful picture of a beautiful mountain

I climbed the Forsythe Glacier and descended via that fabulous Dog's Head glissade. I've always been glad for that one climb before the eruption! And as a bonus, that climb counts for having done the highpoint of Skamania County - the new highpoint is on the west slopes of Mt. Adams! :-)

Wonderful!

You have the finest collection of photos that I've yet seen on SP.

Re: Wonderful!

Thanks very much! But I must admit to feeling quite intimidated by the many terrific photos from many others, not least some of the European members. It's great that so many have joined and created such a tremendous collection of mountain information and images. Back in 2001 when it got started we didn't know what would happen, and it has surpassed my expectations by a long shot! Thanks again. -Bob

Excuse me ... Bob ?

I resurrected a photo from the bottom of the stack - decided to attach it to your wonderful album. I am also easily intimidated. Regards & thanks!

Here's a link to the photo!

Re: Excuse me ... Bob ?

No need to be intimidated, nor to be excused! And if you can put in a link with text, you can embed a smiley!

Superb shot of a graceful looking volcano

In '77 I climbed it too on the NE side. Nice picture Bob, 10/10
