| Tower of Babel from the southeast | [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ] |
The Tower of Babel from the southeast near Lower Cannon Lake. The South Ridge is to the left with Towers 1 & 2 behind the snag and Towers 3 & 4 to the right. The "Knife-Edge Notch" and the small free standing tower above it are between Tower 4 and the main summit block.

Hasn't voted | I am not sure where Martin came up with andesite as the rock type for this peak.
The geology of the area is very complicated and the rocks consist of a mixture of metavolcanics and metasediments.
Andesite is certainly a volcanic rock and much of the rock in the area could be metamorphosed andesite.
Lopez states: "The range was formed by block faulting of the region's very complicated rock layers, which contain a little of everything, from oceanic sedimentary rocks to intrusive igneous rock and limestone, all within a short walking distance of each other."
HERE is a geologic map of the county with a short description of the geology. | | Posted Sep 12, 2004 12:48 pm |
