From the Piney River drainage, a use trail (sketchy at times) ascends to the high basin between Mount Powell (to the north) and Peak C. Couloir #1 is then climbed and the West Ridge is followed or contoured onto the mountain's west face. A traverse to Couloir #2 leads to a climb of that gully (Class 3), and then on to either the Great Ramp or steep tundra and rock to the summit (Class 2 and 3). Round trip: 9 miles minimum, 4,170 feet gain.
