Desolation Valley view, 1.5... [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Desolation Valley view, 1.5...
Desolation Valley view, 1.5 miles east of Pyramid Peak, Aug. 9th, 2004. Desolation?! Ropi Lake is pictured here, looking to the west. Truth is, this is the upper limit of more-or-less mature size trees in this area - the Lake Aloha area, just 500 vertical feet higher and just over one mile farther north, really is desolate.

Do you mean 1.5 miles east of Pyramid looking west? Extremely interesting shot. Thanks much.

Thank you for the comment! Yes, it is a wonderful place, though now buried by over three meters of snow with more falling by the day.

It is a most interesting place, also, from a geological standpoint. Your profile says you are a geologist so you may appreciate this: The very hard and dense granite rocks still retain a polish left over from the ice age glaciers of over ten thousand years ago!

Best regards,

Don

I camped out on the eastern edge of Ropi last time out last year, and love this picture you posted. I can't wait for the snow to melt and for the blue and green to be seen again. That series of lakes is heaven on earth! Thanks for posting! See you in the back country! ~Gregg
