Looking over at the NE summit...
Looking over at the NE summit from the SW summit on Oct. 2, 2004. Which summit is higher? Read below.

Old 15-minute maps showed an 8,520-ft value for the NE summit and 8,480+ ft max contour for the SW summit (see a GreenTrails map of the area, for example). Now, the current 7.5-minute map shows an 8,520+ ft contour for the SW summit (view at 1:10,000 scale) and an 8,480+ ft contour for the NE summit. Which one is really the highest point? I can't say for sure. A simple level sighting test (ski pole and compass water bubble) looking at the SW from the NE proved inconclusive.
