Marmolada
The Marmolada (center), seen here from the Sellajoch, is the highest mountain in the Dolomites, and the only one with a sizable glacier. To the right the Gran Vernel. (Scan of paper print from 1993)

Yes, it's strange that the Marmolada just consists of ordinary chalk, but then there are also mountains of volcanic origin in the Dolomites - e.g. the Padònkamm.
