The view down the southwest... [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
The view down the southwest...
The view down the southwest side of Fortress Mountain on September 23, 2000. The standard (easiest) route to the summit comes up this side. The Buck Creek Trail climbs to Buck Creek Pass, which is on the other side of Helmet Dome (7,400+ ft) at right. To climb Fortress you do not go all the way to that pass. At top-center is Liberty Cap (6,760+ ft) and beyond it is the head of the Suiattle River on the southeast side of Glacier Peak. At the right edge of the frame is Flower Dome (6,332 ft).

"Got tight last night on absinthe and did knife tricks. Great success shooting the knife into the piano. The woodworms are so bad and eat hell out of all furniture that you can always claim the woodworms did it."   --Ernest Hemingway
