Hasn't voted | On the very summit there are two churches. They were built to serve people on the upper pastures of the mountain. So, it is said that one is German, the other one Slovenian (because bot nations inhabited these places). But I don't know which is which, neither if there's still service in them. Next to the church on this picture there are some ruins also, so obviously there was at least one more building in the past. | | Posted Dec 15, 2004 7:35 am |
| | pkrul | Re: Church on a mountain? | | Hasn't voted | The one with the tower on the summit is the German church called the "Maria am Stein" church. It is supposed to be the highest church in Europe since 1692.
The smaller, rounder, and older one, located more to the west, is the Slovenian, or "Windische" as the locals refer to it.
We had to lit candles in both of these churches on behalf of the people we were staying at in Noetsch. They really want to make sure that we lit them for the right person in the right church. | | Posted Dec 13, 2005 8:12 am |
