Whitebark pine is the common... [ Sizes: Orig | Small | Thumb ]
Whitebark pine is the common...
Whitebark pine is the common seral tree species in the high subalpine throughout the Pacific Northwest. However fire suppression and blister rust has greatly decimated its occurrence. But these stunted trees on the summit of The Ogre are in good shape and producing good seed in their abundant cones. Its very rare to see numerous, robust cones such as these. Aug. 2003.
