Altyn limestone

Looking up the exposed slab of Altyn limestone that marks the start of the High Traverse Route to Snow Moon Basin. The route follows the limestone into the forest before reemerging at the base of an immense scree and talus field beneath Allen Mountain. By following game trails and a dry drainage up the left side of the scree, a broad ledge provides access to the start of a marvelous game trail that wraps around Allen to Snow Moon Basin. July 7, 2010
