A snowshoeing buddy had convinced me to try some mountaineering skills, taught me how to kick steps in the hard snow, and use a trekking pole for self-arrest. We tried to come down via the PCT but found the snow on it much harder and retreated back the way we came, glissading back towards the Benson Hut. NOT recommended; should have brought at least an ice axe.
