Wilderness of Rozanski Kukovi on North Velebit from one of the highest summits of the group; Krajacev Kuk (1659m), during the last light of 2004. Right of the middle is Gromovaca (1676m) and just by it but quite farther behind Veliki Zavizan (1676m) in Zavizan group. Of three peaks far behind left is Slovenski Sneznik (1796m) in Slovenia, in the middle is Snjeznik (1506m) and right is Risnjak (1528m); both in Gorski Kotar region of Croatia. Left of Slovenski Sneznik a very distant peak peers above the dark Gorski Kotar; that is Triglav (2864m), highest peak in Slovenia, over 200km away! Further left where dark Gorski Kotar region begins to loose altitude another small part of Julian Alps is visible.

I don't know how many evenings I've witnessed on the summits or various areas of Velebit and other mountains, number is huge, but this evening ranks among most amazing if not the best ever! Atmosphere and scenery were breathless! Can’t tell you how happy I am with the decision where to greet 2005 :-) Of course, that didn’t happen on the summit of Krajacev Kuk, I would freeze up there, but in the hut 2:30h away. | | Posted Jan 4, 2005 9:20 am |
