From the summit of Persis,...
From the summit of Persis, April, '84. The N. face (standard) route on the N. peak ascends on or just behind the left edge as seen here. The double summit of Mount Baring is across the valley, on the left.

I guess I'm just gonna have to get up there to see that view of Index. But maybe it would be better when there's no fear of a cornice breaking off so one could get closer to the edge?

As a matter of fact, we played on a cornice lower on the south side that day. My partner was Mike Woodmansee (He has a book about Trekking Washington.), who was a CPA celebrating the end of income tax season. There was a shallow bowl on the S. side, with a cornice on its S. lip. We took turns leaping off the cornice into the deep fluff in the bowl. Silly stuff for a sunny Spring day.

About all I remember about our route on Persis is that we drove as high as we could on the W & SW side, then scrambled up a roadbank into the woods.
