| The great dome of Mauna Loa... | [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ] |
The great dome of Mauna Loa is seen through the veil of a rainbow from the Volcano House. Note the steam boiling off the crater edge of the massive Kilauea Caldera (right), still very much an active volcano! Winter, 2005, Volcano National Park, Hawaii.

Hasn't voted | Thanks guys. No, the mountain was always in clouds. We had hoed to climb Mauna Kea, but it was always in clouds too. No point. We want to see it! We got lots of hiking done in the park and around the island though. VERY NICE! | | Posted Mar 9, 2005 6:35 pm |

Hasn't voted | When we went, the volcanoes were also in the clouds. That is, until we got to 10,000 feet. once above that, it was brilliant sunshine and we looked down on all those clouds while getting sunburnt!
Its good you got some good hikes in. Kilauea Crater has some really cool hikes, despite all the tourist. | | Posted Mar 9, 2005 6:49 pm |
