Those markers are where the Trough merges with the Keyhole route, which sees very heavy traffic. They are there for the benefit of the many inexperienced climbers who attempt Longs. Though on a sunny August weekend day all you have to do not to get lost is to stay in line, things may be quite different if you are by yourself and visibility is poor.
