Profile view of the Aiguille L'Index looking from the east near the top La Flegere telepherique station.

Looking up from Chamonix the aiguille is seen as striking finger of rock, but the reality is not quite as precipitous.

The classic SE ridge route ascends the left-hand skyline and some climbers are silhouetted on the summit. The snow-filled descent couloir can be seen on the right hand side. The snow is easily avoided by scrambling down on the rocks on side of the couloir.
