Hazards to look out for among the rocks atop Strawberry Peak (6,164 ft.) - Angeles National Forest, California, USA, taken 03/27/05

He had shimmied his way down into some leaves so his back was level with the leaves, was all coiled up and perfectly camoflaged. One more step and I would have stepped on him. But with some encouragement from a stick I was able to push him off the trail. This was in 2004. | | Posted Apr 1, 2005 5:34 pm |

Hasn't voted | It was very small, and appeared to be young. However, the number of rings is not the best indication of age. It was sitting in the sun (the sun was not very warming on that day) in an area where I was just about to step. Past encounters with Rattlesnakes, I have been warned audibly before I got too close, but this guy was not moving (perhaps it was cold) and I did not disturb it. | | Posted Apr 14, 2005 5:11 pm |
