| Who Needs a Five Star Hotel? | [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ] | |||||||||||
My son, Curtis, reads under Casa Grande and the stars at the Chisos Basin campground, Big Bend National Park, TX, July 2005. For you astronomers out there, this is the tail of Scorpius (right side of image) and Saggitarius (just to the right of Casa Grande). You should be able to pick out Shaula and Lesath (the stinger), and from there M7 and M6. The nebulosity of M8 (Lagoon Nebula) is plainly visible, and so are the stars surrounding the M24 area (what always reminds me of an arrowhead). This is a 30-second exposure using a Canon 10-24-mm UWA lens set to 10-mm and infinite focus. During the exposure Curtis continued casually reading his magazine ("Backpacker"!). Although he occasionally flipped a page during the exposure, he was still enough that you don't notice his movement in the image. Why would anyone ever prefer to stay in a hotel with just five stars? ;-) Comments [ Post a Comment ]
