Hasn't voted | Thanks for the comment. Typically, I carry my camera in a waist pouch made by LowePro and pull it out as needed. If the going gets tough (or vertical), I may put the camera in my pack and pull out as needed/possible. If it rains and gets really wet, I will definitely put my camera away in a pack, wrapped up in something water-resistant. I am not very happy with a waist bag I have right now and planning to give Galen Rowell's chest bag a try. Hasn't voted | Third class??? I think some of these ratings just have to be adjusted. Imagine a beginner heading up this thinking it's got to be easy - 3rd class. Maybe we need to come up with a rating system of our own that would take into account exposure, rock quality, length of the route, even weather conditions. We can call it Summit Post Rating System.

But I prefer the wide crop because you're showing more air on either side of the ridge. Gives it a better sense of context. As far as the two shots go, I like the vertical one because the angle and the content give a better sense of perspective on how high you are, and what you had to climb.

I know the second one shows the surroundings, but the gray clouds on the left are too much of the photo. Plus, the vertical version is neat, because as others have said, it shows how steep the peak is.
