Thanks. Light was very beautiful that evening. I took this photo right after a major storm cleared.

Curious about the camera settings. I imagine you must pack a tripod for these long exposures. I'm going up over Taboose this year and plan to pack in a tripod for the first time (a "real" tripod instead of one of those six-inch jobbers). Going to try more of those Polarizer/GND filter combinations.

Sure. I do carry a tripod - it is one of the lightest Gitzo 6x carbon fiber models; it only weights a little bit over 1lb. I also use a Really Right Stuff ballhead. That rig is very sturdy although not very high off the ground. I have to squat to take photos (I am 6' tall) but it is manageable. Besides that, I carry an array of GND filters (polarizer never comes off my lens), remote shutter release, a couple of batteries and a solar panel for recharging them (on longer trips).
As far as camera settings for this particular photo: Canon 5D, Canon EF-S 17-40L, f/13, 26mm, ISO100, 0.8sec

I hope that this helps!

Yes, that does help, Misha. I just bought a Gitzo 6x carbon and a Giotto MH 1302 ballhead. I'm looking forward to packing in with a Nikon 17-35 f/2.8 on a D80.

Was this film (type?) or digital with enhancement filter? Simply wonderful however it was done. Thank you.

Thanks. This is digital shot with Canon 5D and two filters (polarizer and graduated neutral density). I already commented about color saturation to a different person - see my note on the previous page.

I love how Winchell looks from this side. Climbed Agassiz last year, great view from the top, and yes, much more snow last year, even in September.
