Voted 10/10 | No wonder you keep going back, Marc. I've just caught myself getting back to this photo, and this is what I normally do a dozen times while returning from a hike - stop again and look back one last time, which soon turns out the 2nd last, the 3rd last, the...
I wish you a hundred happy returns Marc,

Hasn't voted | Well, there is also another reason for my going back so many times. Whitney is the first mountain I come to when driving to the mountains from my house. I can sleep between the rocks of the Alabama Hills, and get a very early start in the morning. That's the best way to get the top in one day and back using a self issuing permit. These self issuing permits are available during the off season which is in November when it's too cold for hundreds of people to crowd the mountain. I also use this mountain for training. I have slept on the top for altitude training a number of times. All that aside, I love the mountain. I think the views are better than the Palisades.
Thanks for coming back Jacek,
Happy climbing,

| JanG | Really great photo ! | |
Voted 10/10 | You climbed Whitney 53 times? Of the technical climbs, which is your favorite?

Hasn't voted | Thank you Jan. Yes 53, and most of them were in one day to the top and back. I have done only one sort of technical route. I have done "The East Face, 5.6." But, of course most of the route is no harder than 4th class. However, if you get off route you could easily end up doing 5.9 cracks, like it happened to us. But, we rapped down and found the right way.
Thanks for dropping by and the vote,

Hasn't voted | Okay, I feel like a fool now talking about the "East Face" route. I just realized you own the page on that. It's a great page and has many great photos. I wish I had a few photos of the climb. I hardly ever carried a camera on my climbs, especially when I climbed with my main partner. He hated cameras, and having photos wasn't very important to me. I have been a SP member for only a few months.
Happy climbing Jan,

Hasn't voted | Did you try to climb the mountain? If so, did you make it? | | Posted Feb 16, 2009 11:59 pm |
 | | fortybelow | Re: nice | |
Hasn't voted | No didn't make it to the top =[ I am not experienced enough. I did hike up to around 10000ft. Since the portal road was closed it was quite a hike. | | Posted Feb 17, 2009 9:21 pm |

Hasn't voted | good job,
I know how hard it is to walk on snow covered roads and trails. You can try again in May or June. Try to get a permit now, especially if you go again during the peak season. | | Posted Feb 17, 2009 9:41 pm |

Hasn't voted | Thanks again Ray. I'll be going to this area again this weekend, not for climbing but just hiking around. I haven't done Whitney in a few years, but I have put in enough miles on it to last me a life time. | | Posted Nov 24, 2009 1:48 pm |
