Once you get up onto the summit ridge, you are treated to this view to the northwest. The lake is Höfðavatn and the peak is Storhöfði.

Is that yellow hue due to sulfur?

Note I voted 2 stars, but I voted twice. So 2 + 2 = 4, right?

Uh sure, thanks for the vote(s). I'm sure it works out mathematically that way. ;- )



If you are talking about the rock being yellow, it was a tan to yellow color of rhyolite, I believe. I believe the literature I read on this states the rock is that color because of a reaction with the geothermal activity there which would mean sulphur but I am not sure if there were active vents over there. They were pretty much everywhere though in this area. But yeah, it would have been from sulphur at least at one time. You can see from this photo the way the sulphur definitely works the rock into different colors.



If you are talking about within the green areas, it probably was just the sunshine reflecting on the moss. The sun was shining through a crack in the clouds almost exclusively on this small peak so I just started shooting photos and got lucky.
