Hello Bob,

I thank you so much now for my part for your praise and your bunch of 4-star-votes. It's a fine thing, this SP! One must only avoid to become hooked ;-)

Best regards Michael

I love it. Gonna send a link to my non-climbing brother in Tigard. Thanks for catching this.

Surreal indeed - that's a pretty good word for it. Spectacular day, and I was most happy to be able to catch it! Thanks Eric! -Bob

Thanks! I had never seen that phenomenon either. I've seen similar views, but not this effect. It seemed to be caused by being at the exactly correct elevation - the point of the inversion. It was definitely colder below that elevation, and warmer above. I was very lucky to see and capture this view. -Bob

I can't find the info you want. I don't think anyone knows for sure. The only thing I did find was that the last eruptive period for Hood ended shortly before the arrival of Lewis & Clark in 1805. Click here and scroll down to Mount Hood.

Yeah, Hood is one of those mountains that must be climbed. I'd do it with you except that I've sworn off that mountain after 8 climbs: So Many Mountains, So Little Time! Thanks Bo!
