| I started early from the Tamar valley, when temperatures were still bearable. By the time I got to Srednja Ponca, my clothes were wet with sweat anyway. I had a bite and a rest, then continued to Visoka Ponca. I put on my helmet for this section, but although there were a few cables, I didn't use my via ferrata set. Descending from Visoka Ponca into Italy, I chose the Ponza Ferrata, and that was a much more committing route, not just a hiking route with a few cables securing the most exposed parts, but a fully fledged via ferrata. This time I was very glad to use my via ferrata gear! When I finally reached the Zacchi refuge, where I planned to spend the night, it turned out to be full. Even though it was a Saturday in August, I hadn't expected that, since the refuge is not all that far from the road. I hitched my way down to the valley, and eventually found a place to stay in the small town of Tarvisio. Fro | ||

| In september 2002 we crossed the Ponce ridge. The highest Ponca has, in my opinion, the most difficult ferrata to Rif.Zacchi,( on that crossing) being rather athletic.I was glad when we finally descended. | ||

| Moonhiker | A weekend in Tamar Date Climbed: Jun 23, 2007 | |
| We spent a long weekend in Tamar valley. Main event was climbing Jalovec, and while waiting for the right weather, we decided to climb Ponca. Day started with shower, therefore we started late, around 11 a.m., and had to wait in one cave for another shower to pass, so when we came on Srednja Ponca, it was already 4.00 p.m. We enjoyed cloudly view on Sleme, Mojstrovka and Visoka Ponca, and then went back down to Tamar. Better luck(weather) next time. | ||
