Your new look ..

How did you ever decide to climb Vesuvius ???

You look a tad warm, compared to when you
climbed in South America and looked like you
would freeze your butt off.

Re: Your new look ..

Good question! The first time I heard about the peak was from my mother. She showed me a photograph that was taken by my grandfather. He was flying a plane for the allies during WW2 when Vesuvius erupted and was able to get some terrific shots.

And yes, I was a sweaty mess up there but I'd rather sweat than have ice forming on my face.

Re: Your new look ..

Just to add.

I was involved in an "exercise" off the port
of Naples in 1977.

At that time, the summit of Vesuvius was
off-limits due to a steam vent eruption.

Mount Etna was also erupting at that time.

Re: Your new look ..

Was it a military exercise? Etna is erupting again. While I was there, I saw images of lava on the Italian television. I couldn't understand the words but I was familiar with the name Etna.

Yes - the Cold War.

And yes, volcanoes seem to have a strange
attraction that cannot be explained.

I've always wanted to be a Volcano Chaser.
