crowds. No complaint about the latter, though since a bunch of them were my dear friends

Hiked around the rim but not sure if I made the summit. Was part of a free day on my Mormon mission.

RazorRenDisappointing  Sucess!

Went up to Volcan Irazu as part of a tour in October 2009 and found it disappointing as the clouds blocked the view of the craters. The best I saw was vaguely viewing the crater lake when the clouds slightly thinned out for a brief amount of seconds.

Lucked out and had a fairly clear morning. Great views into the other mtn ranges to the south, and the other smaller volcanoes to the north. Turrialba was actually putting up a show for us too, smoking quite a bit. Great area.

Went with Bennovak on a dirtdevil trip to Costa Rica. Good climb, good view, great coffee. Take a break and throw some dice at the Blue Marlin afterwords...You deserve it.

Easy morning walk to the summit. Hiked down into the crater. Later drove down to the Costa Rican Caribean coast (Puerto Viejo de Talamanca) for a dip.

Nice walk to the summit. Don't forget to bring a jacket! Beatiful view over the forest and into the crater.

Very long walk to the top but really fun. Great view of the crater from top. Inside of crater is really cool too.

My first visit inside a volcanic crater. What I remember most is the very fine powdery ash in the crater.

You can drive right to the top of this thing. The challenge is not physical, it is mental. Costa Rican roads are pretty bad, signage is non existant, and there are some rental-car-roadside-assistance robberies to look out for. But the view of the irridecent sewage green lake from the summit on a clear day makes the trip well worth while.

An easy walk-up. However, it can be tiring if you are not in shape. The view from the summit is great. Clouds began to swirl all around us. The temperature was a cool, brisk 50ish. Looking down into the crater from the summit is breathtaking. Could not see the oceans cause of the clouds. Nonetheless it was a great experience.
