My eldest daughter has shown me pics of this region. She assists villagers in Ecuador and has spent some of her holiday exploring this area. Thanks for the addition!

I have heard much of this peak. I've also heard that its neighbor, Aucanquilcha, provides the world's highest mountain biking!



One interesting detail: Calama is one of the world's driest places, and certainly the driest populated city in the world. It had never snowed or rained there in history (at least a few hundred years) until the early 1990's when a half an inch of snow fell. Some smaller villages in the area have apparently never reported precipitation.
