Skied and hiked  Sucess!

Wall 1/10/2015 On skis via Upper Setting. 19 miles and 8 hours RT.

Wall 2/27/2012 On skis via Upper Setting Road which runs uphill in both directions. The trail wasn't even broken to the yurt turnoff. Very windy on the ridge. 19 miles and 9hrs 32 min RT. 6:25 up and 3:07 down.

Wall 1/25/2011 On skis via Upper Setting Road. Tough due to conditions. Snowed except for the first hour, white out conditions on summit, had to break trail both on the way up and on the way down. About 18.6 miles RT. 6:41 up and 10:07 RT

Wall 1/17/2010
On skis, via Shingle Creek and NW ridge with Rob and Mike. 5 hours up and 8 RT. Nice warm day. Snow thin on trail. Had to walk in a few spots.

10931 1/31/2009
On skis with MOCKBA aka Dmitry Pruss. Started from the Mirror Lake Highway on the Norway Flats road. Perfect weather and perfect snow conditions. We went up the west ridge and came down the east ridge. The west ridge was much tamer than the east.

Wall 9/1/2001
Did 7 10000 footers with a possible 200 feet of prominence. Started at the Smith Morehouse TH. Took the Erickson Basin Fork of the trail to the saddle NE of Wall. Contoured around Wall and did 10712/10720 (S of Wall). Then did Wall and continued NW from Wall to the 10400 bump. Contoured around East and West Shingle Creek Lakes and hit the 10440 bump SW of West Shingle Creek Lake. Then headed NNE to ridge and did 10647, 10600/10613, and 10268. Continued N on the ridge for awhile and then bushwhacked back to the trail.

10931 8/11/2001
Started at the Smith and Morehouse TH. Did a loop hike going up the trail along Smith and Morehouse Creek and down Erickson Creek. Went over Cone, 10931, and the 10600 bump WNW of 10931. I was planning to get Wall and the 10720 bump S of Wall, but after these 3, I had had enough.

It just didn't feel right, so much effort put in describing one of my fav haunts of W Uintahs and nobody but the author logged it. So here we go.

Ran up Wall with Jasmine and her brother Max, of course not using any described routes. I wouldn't take my Subaru up Upper Setting rd beyond the 2nd "autos not recommended" sign, so we parked right there, walked the rim of the cliffs East across Coop Ck, and took an old logging road North along the spine of the hill separating Coop and Shingle creeks. Then for a while we followed lower Setting trail, but ascended the NW ridge (talus fields and a bit of bushwhack thru krummholz, with a drop into an interesting trough with fissures at 10,700), and back through the open woods og the gentle SW ridge. The summit USDA FS BM is a bit ENE of the top, at a point where Big Elk divide lakes come into sight.

Lucious huckleberries, raspberries, and overripe currants, all already dropping their leaves - red huckleberry bushes by the streams especially beautiful. It was windy but so serene - love that feeling of the snow waiting just over the horizon. Will be back after it covers the ground.
