Wasatch Serviceberries

Amelanchier alnifolia, a.k.a. saskatoon, from corrupted Cree Indian word "misâskwatômina". It gave a very abundant crop in the Wasatch Mountains in 2008. This berry tastes the best when it is absolutely ripe, without any tint of red. If your serviceberry has a mealy or bland taste, then you must have picked it too early.

I think I'll make blueberry pancakes for breakfast! Beautiful berries! I hope our highly fluctuating weather in the NW hasn't ruined our mountain berry crops!

	Voted 10/10	We have deciduous red huckleberries throughout the NW in the lowlands.... in my yard. They are tasty. The grouseberries are mostly in Eastern WA, higher elevations.
