Here the Washington Aqueduct draws drinking water for the area and creates a smooth draw around the dam.
Hikers, bikers, walkers, all enjoy the Billy Goat Trail and other hikes in this area along the towpath of the historic Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, completed in 1850 after 22 years of work and mishap, and operated for 73 years between Georgetown and Cumberland, MD.
