| Slightly overcast day with light snowfall the prior night at the higher elevations on top of an exisitng base of one foot or less. Took the Buckhorn Trail up to the Twin Peaks junction and then on up to the summit. At the saddle the wind picked up slightly and the new snow and ice began to fall from the trees. Had the sound of falling ice the entire last hour until the summit. Very eerie! Hiked over to the rocks at the summit and found the survey mark. Got a bit off trail on the descent following the wrong tracks. Followed an Easterly ridgeline and then eventually crossed over into the trailhead canyon. Only one on the mountain for the day | ||

| This is a beautiful hike from any trailhead. Lots of big trees and and some good boulders on the summit. Early summer has great wildflowers. | ||

| Done this several times as part of a run from 3 Points or even on skis from Buckhorn. Keep an eye open for bighorn sheep south of the summit. | ||

| Been to the summit perhaps 30 or 40 times in the past 20 years. Favorite route is the northwest ridge, starting at Cloudburst Summit. The Waterman Mountain Trail, starting across the highway from Buckhorn Picnic Area, is an excellent bike ride. Have done ski descents down various ridges and slopes. Spent many nights on the summit, where camping is excellent! There are some nice granite outcrops on the southeast side, with good bouldering and 40' to 60' top-rope climbs. | ||

| Who would believe there would be snow blanketing Mt. Waterman in late May? And yet there was. A clear sky, still air, and temperatures in the 60s made for perhaps the best day of skiing I've ever had in southern California. Skinned up the lower ski slopes, walked along the bare summit ridge for a quarter mile, and then skinned the rest of the way to the summit. Glorious sun and near-perfect snow on the way down. I drew a few stares sitting by the road with my skis afterward, but those folks don't know what they're missing! | ||
