south side loop
Hiked both Buffalo peaks via Fourmile TH. Made a nice ten mile loop by dropping down the south talus slopes of East Buffalo to the Salt Creek Trail then back to Fourmile.

With MountainHikerette, we did West first, then over to East. Did better with following roads on the return. Recommend map, compass, GPS and knowing how to use them!

Great holidays that I spent in the mountains. First day, I hiked Jacque Peak and Pennsylvania Mountain. It was very smoky that day, first glimpse on the fire season. View of Tenmiles are great. Second day I hiked Tweto, Mosquito, Treasurevault, Repeater, Evans B and London. Great and long trip. Then I drove to the Buffalo Peak wilderness and my car broke. I was towed to Fairplay to have my car repaired but I had to wait till Tuesday. Then they fixed it soon enough that I was able to hike both East and West Buffalo Peaks. They are awesome. I was bushwhacking a lot on the way up East Bufff.

East & West Summits Loop from east
Elk, Bighorn Sheep, bear scat...plenty of wildlife on these less-traveled peaks. Loved this outing, makes for a good, scenic day. Elissa & Laraine are troopers. :-)

Climbed both East and West after a quick side trip to 12644.
Planning to go do east and west Buffalo peaks the first week of June. If you don't mind me asking, what was the weather like when you were up there last year in early June? Was there much snow? Thanks for any help you can give.

great loop trip
The "usual suspects" and I did the entire loop, and had a great day. One of the highlights of this trip was seeing a huge group of elk on the ridge in the distance.

lovely autumn day hiking the loop, east to west, with jamie and prakash. a little bit of snow higher up made a few short glissades possible descending the northwest slope of west buffalo.

From Four Mile Creek
We took a church group of teenagers on a wilderness outing. They all opted to fish while Mike and I climbed the Buffalo peaks from the West. And yeah we had to reclimb West Buffalo to get back. Oh well...
Climed these peaks together from the west via Fourmile Road outside of Buena Vista. Great views of the Sawatch, Northern Sangre and Mosquito Ranges. Cold and windy day, but definitely worth it!
