West Butte

My girlfriend took this photo of KMcC and myself on the East Face Route of the West Pawnee Butte in August, 1968. The photo shows the general line of the climb. We chopped small footholds to gain access to the iron spikes, where the lead climber, KMcC, is just approaching. He was climbing unbelayed on a wing and a prayer. (We didn't know any better!)
