ApproachTake the Loveland Pass/Ski Area exit from Interstate 70 just east of the Eisenhower Tunnel. Enter and park at the Loveland Basin ski area lot. Walk the service road west past and above the tunnel entrance and turn right. Ascend the first ski slope you encounter and follow it into the heights of Loveland Basin.
In the higher reaches of the basin, you will see Mount Trelease to your right. Aim for the saddle at the end of Mount Trelease's West Ridge where it meets the steeper slopes leading to the Continental Divide, due almost directly north.
This is a great hike and climb for getting in shape, doing a half day jaunt or a nice ski or snowshoe outing. This mountain can also be climbed in conjuction with the Continental Divide and various combinations involving Hagar Mountain and The Citadel.
Route DescriptionOnce in the saddle, hang a sharp right and follow the surprisingly narrow west ridge east to Mount Trelease's summit. Some surprisingly fun and exposed Class 2 scrambling will be encountered.
Return the same route.
