Wetterhorn   Sucess!

Good times till I rolled my ankle on the way down which slowed my descent

Paired with Matterhorn Pk  Sucess!

With Megan Berry. Standard route. Descent made more interesting by joining the Wetterhorn-Matterhorn ridge close to the low point between the peaks, and scrambling over to Matterhorn Peak. Puncture on the drive out to Lake City. Damn.

Nice route  Sucess!

Nice route on East Ridge. Do not do what I did. I stayed on the ridge proper and was lured by cairns way out right onto the east face a few hundred feet below the Ships Prow. Rock was loose and time was wasted. I made it back to the notches but it was annoying. Stick right beside the Prow all the way and you will be good.

Southeast Ridge  Sucess!

Mary and I did this one after a warm-up on Handies the day before. The meadows and wild flowers were amazing.

Standard Route  Sucess!

climbed Wetterhorn Peak, 14,016 feet elevation. We left the trailhead at 5:30am, summitted at 10:00am and got back to the car at 1:00pm. This was our first time visiting the San Juan Mountain Range.

SE Ridge  Sucess!

A very fun and pretty climb from the Matterhorn TH with perfect weather. Made summit with hubz on our 14th wedding anniversary, which was cool.

Dry October  Sucess!

Second time up, surprisingly dry for this late in October, I wasn't even planning on climbing it but it looked so dry from Broken Hill that I just couldn't resist!

Loved it  Sucess!

Drove to the Matterhorn Creek trailhead planning to hike the following day but the weather looked good so I started up the trail. The weather held so I was able to enjoy an evening on top.

Great mountain.  Sucess!

1st summit August 09, 2014
This is one of most scenic Colorado 14ers! Group of four of us made it to the top around 8:20. Weather was perfect, views fantastic, in one word, San Juans are the best!

2nd summit July 25, 2016
Another beautiful climb, this mountain is really beautiful.

Ditto Ericd  Sucess!

Ditto what Ericd said. If anticipating busy summit, recommend helmet so you don't have to worry (as much) about rocks accidentally being kicked down from above you.

A class-3 primer  Sucess!

Enjoyed every minute of this short class-3 climb! After camping in the flat meadows, trail gave a gradual grassy ascent with just a little bouldering. SE ridge is obvious and was surprised how high the actual dirt path continues. To get to the Prow, below the summit, I took an east face variation which worked well to a notch where intermediate ledges led up to the perfect summit plateau! After only a few minutes on top, we enjoyed a special treat from the sky -getting buzzed by an airplane!

Excellent scramble  Sucess!

Climbed from Matterhorn Basin - this has definitely got to be one of the best standard 14er climbs out there!

Loop around peak and a summit  Sucess!

West Fork to summit to East Fork to Middle Fork to West Fork. Saw about a dozen people in the hour around the summit but not another person anywhere around off the 14er trail in three days. The way to do it.

marmot central  Sucess!

Made a solo jaunt up the Wetterhorn. Ran into 4 other friendly climbers on the peak, which kind of surprised me for a Tuesday (I'm obviously not from CO).
Also watched a massive sheep drive halfway around the mountain, which was pretty entertaining. Saw a Volvo at the upper trailhead.
