Whale Dome | [ Sizes: Orig | Small | Thumb ] |
Whale Dome as seen from the standard approach trail. Can you see the whale - complete with green lips and an eye slit? Three climbers spread out on pitch 3 of Moby Dick can be seen along a "seam" near center of photo. Photo taken January 1, 2005.

Hasn't voted | THank you Natasha. The route we did (Moby Dick) was pretty fun but soft for a 5.8.....kind of an enjoyable, stress-free day :) | | Posted Jan 5, 2005 7:55 pm |

Voted 10/10 | That's interesting. That first link you provided said it was not recommended for new 5.8 trad leaders. Must be those Southern Arizona climbers are softies. :-)

I think there's very little 5.8 terrain on this route - in fact most of it is 5.6-5.7.....but, I guess a leader should be solid on .7 since the route probably deserves a rating of PG or even PG13.
I was going to put in the comment in the route description that the route is casual for a 5.8 leader and a fun adventure for a solid .7 leader. | | Posted Jan 6, 2005 12:16 pm |

Hasn't voted | Green just isn't his lip color at all! I picture him in more of a "pink bamboo" shade.
Just kidding. Very nice work, as usual. | | Posted Jan 5, 2005 8:13 pm |

I guess the major cost of partying in the sun is the masochistic hours we spent in the car driving :) | | Posted Jan 7, 2005 12:25 pm |
