White Cushion Moss

White Cushion Moss

White Cushion Moss (Leucobryum glaucum) is one of the 650 species of mosses that can be found in Polish forests. Leucobryum glaucum can grow up to 3 inches tall and can form large mats several feet across. It likes moist and shady areas and can be found on soil, bases of living or dead tree trunks and rock ledges. It does not have roots or flowers ( just like all the other mosses). It absorbs water through its leaves and reproduces by spores. This photo was taken along the red trail on route to Mount Mogila ( 606 m). The Low Beskid- August 2007
