3 of 3  Sucess!

Third and final peak of the day after Ragged and Conness. Very nice X country through forests and meadows on the way back from the summit to Tuolumne.

Great Ski/Climb/Scramble Day  Sucess!

Celebrating my 2nd Ankleversary in style with a tasty snow climb of a couloir, a scramble to the summit, then zippy ski to the meadow. Cold nights are keeping the snow on north aspects in good shape!

Vagmarken Crest  Sucess!

This was to be three peoples' Vagmarken Crest list finish. We took a route from Sawmill Campground. The group included several SPS list finishers, and even some multiple SPS list finishers. Three of us later peeled off and ran the ridge to Conness for a double peak day.

Southwest Ridge   Sucess!

Traversed over from the basin below Ragged and scrambled up a southeast-facing headwall (class 3) to the west of Skeleton Lakes. From here we gained the SW ridge and followed it up to the obvious high point. The summit blocks seemed to be class 2+ or even 3 if climbed from the south; I don't really understand the class 2 rating here.

With Conness  Sucess!

From Saddlebag Lake. Pretty straight-forward. Hard Class 2 scrambling in places. Realized it was much steeper than it looked after we took the trail up to the plateau below Conness.

NE Ridge  Sucess!

Followed ridge from near Big Horn Lake. Exited at about 11,800' and went straight up easy chute to summit rocks. There's actually a hint of scambling on this route.

From False White Mountain  Sucess!

Up the south slope after reaching False White Mountain. A long day, first up Gaylor, over to False White Mountain, and then White Mountain. Soft snow everywhere took a lot of energy, wasn't sure I'd ever make it back after the third peak. Excellent views all day and still a great outing.

East Couloir  Sucess!

Booted up the prominent east couloir that tops out just south of the summit. I intended to ski it, but it was a bit too steep and suncupped for my taste. Skied another broad chute around to lookers left.

Route Climbed: Southwest Slopes (Up) Conness Saddle (Down) Date Climbed: 18-Sept-2004  Sucess!

Climbed this on a long dreary fall outing that included Ragged Peak to the south. Gained the ridge about 3/4 mile south of the peak after climbing up past the highest of the Young Lakes. Followed the ridge to the peak and then decended to the Conness/White saddle.

Pics are here.
