White Sands of New Mexico
We visitied this very unusual place filled with gypsum sand dunes back in 2001.
White Sands National Monument is located in the state of New Mexico at the elevation of 4235 feet.
The most prominent plant in the dunes is the soaptree yucca. This plant has thin narrow leaves and an extensive root system that can stabilize a mound of sand.
