Buckwheat

Wild Buckwheat is in the genus Eriogonum and in the family Polygonaceae. The genus is found in North America and is known as Wild Buckwheat. There are many species and many are quite beautiful.

The genus name Eriogonum means “woolly knee” referring to the hairs located at the swollen joints of many species of this genus.

Polygonaceae is derived from the Greek words "poly" which means "many" and "goni" which means "joint", a reference to many species that have swollen nodes or joints.

Feel free to attach your photos of wild buckwheat flowers here :)

"I am in love with this world. I have nestled lovingly in it. I have climbed its mountains, roamed its forests, sailed its waters, crossed its deserts, felt the sting of its frosts, the oppression of its heats, the drench of its rains, the fury of its winds, and always have beauty and joy waited upon my goings and comings."   --John Burroughs
