16 of 21 Utah 13ers now completed  Sucess!

I'm doing all the Utah 13ers as listed in "Utah Thirteeners" by David Rose. Getting Wilson brought my count up to 16. See https://youtu.be/VbWGM6n8Zsg?feature=shared

Miles and Miles of boulders  Sucess!

We backpacked in to just below Red Castle Lake on September 24th. Summited Wilson Peak on September 25, 2022. Backpacked out on September 26th. We had beautiful weather with little if any wind. The north facing side of Wilson was spattered with snow but nothing on the route up. Interesting ridge walk to the summit after attaining the ridge.

Long day  Sucess!

From Little East Fork Blacks Fork, Strava clocked me in at 28 miles total for the day. I was tired, the stream crossings are still rough, and the mosquitoes will eat someone alive if they stop for too long. The first three stream crossings have good fallen trees to use, the last one needs to be forded

Wilson  Sucess!

9/30/2015 Via the Little East Fork Blacks Fork, Squaw Pass, Oweep Basin, and Porcupine Pass. 26 miles total. Drizzled off and on all day, but it cleared where it counted, on the summit ridge. I had wanted to go over Squaw BM, but didn't feel like doing that in the rain, so I improvised. This was probably the last chance to hit this area this year before the snows.

9/28/2009 From China Meadows via Red Castle Lake and west ridge.

9/8/2008 Started at Center Park. Hiked the 5 12000 footers on the west side of Garfield Basin. Then did this one and then East Wilson. Loved the view and the long summit ridge.

Mtn Goats  Sucess!

Climbed Wilson as part of a backpacking trip to Upper Red Castle Lake with RB. Solitude, high alpine lake, and mountain goats ... Summitted mid-morning with overcast sky and not a breath of wind. On the descent, the weather came in and we made a quick dash into the basin below rather than traversing down the long boulder slope. This made for a long return hike over two passes, but I prefer that over boulder hopping (more like boulder wobbling for me) anytime. Only saw a lone cowboy leading his horse coming over the remote pass between two basins and nobody else. Nice secluded area and peak.

Red Castle backpack  Sucess!

trip with my sister. We bagged this peak a few hours before a weekend long thunderstorm. Was amazed at how many people hike and backpack up Smith's Fork with no idea of where they are going or where they are. Anywho... great weekend minus the lightning and hail. Mine and my sister's 2nd Utah 13er.

With these 2 (Jake and MVH)  Sucess!

Gorgeous weather for late September, warm enough for no shirt! Ran a bit, hiked a bit. Soaked in the fall views.

From the China Meadows TH at 9,470'  Sucess!

#1 08-24-2110 W/ friend John P. Lewis hiked the r/t from China Meadows on a bluebird day, a rarity in the Uintas, at least for me. It was the highest that John had ever been (unpressurized!) and his 1st 13er. At the TH at 7 a.m. it was a chilly 32 degrees. #2 09-25-22 W/Lana. We camped below the Red Castle Lake bench at 11,150' near a small lake. Getting around Red Castle Lake proved harder than it looked but we finally made it. Only a whisper of a wind on top. We were the only people on the mountain.

From Oweep  Sucess!

Backpacked from upper Oweep to Squaw Wilson Pass, climbed the West Ridge, ran into a heard of about 20 mountain goats above upper Red Castle lake, loved the flat paved west ridge.

Long Day  Sucess!

Starting from China Meadows, I climbed Wilson Peak and Mt. Powell in a day. On the way up I went by Red Castle Lake, climbed Wilson Peak, descended towards the Smiths Fork pass, and up Mt. Powell. Total distance was around 33 miles, which took 12 hours 35 minutes.

glad I picked this one  Sucess!

I haven't done too many of the 13ers yet, but I'm glad I picked this one for my third. The views are some of the best I've seen anywhere, and the climb was fun, too. Got to do a standing glissade (yes, on snow, not scree) on the way down. Did Kings the day before.

Nice climb  Sucess!

A very nice and secluded peak. One of the most beautiful 13ers in Utah.
