Nice peak to do....

When avalanche danger is high on all peaks above 3000 feet. Good views from the summit toward the Gorge. Our view of Dog Mountain was blocked but still an excellent day.

Wind Mountain  Sucess!

Hiked the main trail. The mountain's name is appropriate as it was a cold wind chill on this December day. Pleasant little pea.

Fun family hike  Sucess!

A lovely last minute hike with my family. Husband did the hard work of lugging our 22-lb baby to the top in the carrier :-) Gorgeous weather!

Sweat it out!  Sucess!

Wish this one was closer, because it would be the perfect mountain for training/laps. Made it to the top in 32 minutes, on the nicest day of the year so far.

Wind Beneath My Feet  Sucess!

I went up the Northside "trail". It is almost impossible to follow and I wound up just bushwhacking and following game trails to reach the top. Walk about 200 yds down the road to find the real trail.

After-thought to Dog Mountain  Sucess!

I hiked to the top of Wind Mountain with the Mazamas Basic Climber Education Program (BCEP) team after we finished hiking Dog Mountain too quickly and our leader decided we need an additional challenge. Great views to the east when your on top.

Family hike with my wife and kids (6 and 4). Very windy (no surprise there) and beautiful. Great way to spend Fathers' Day.

Twice is nice  Sucess!

Did two laps with my Dad on a windy but sunny day in the Gorge. First lap I had my backpack on. Second lap backpack free! On the way out, just at the trailhead I decided to wander through the only poison oak we saw on the hike. Had to get a bath when we got back home. Yuck. Other than the bath thing and not letting me have any of his McDonalds on the way home, my Dad is pretty cool though.

Wind Mtn. Trail  Sucess!

A great hike for when you are strapped for time. The views from the Wind Mountain summit of Defiance, Dog and other mountains are of top quality. And the summit itself is quite an amazing place, it would be worth the trip even w/o the outstanding views. I recommend doing the trail to the viewpoint, the views of Dog from there are even better than from the summit. Be careful though, its fairly steep and a fall from there is a thing to shudder at. 45 minutes up, 35 down with the side trip to the viewpoint.
Edit:Did this again after doing Angel's Rest to get in some more elevation gain. Hazy day so not great views. 35 minutes up, 24 down including a side trip to the viewpoint. There is a spot to park at the actual trailhead and it's an easy turnaround, no need to park up the hill.

A cultural legacy  Sucess!

Very easy hike. A great first mountain for young kids and loved by time-strapped gorge-rs. Hardly an hour up at a moderate pace. 30-40 minutes at a brisk pace. Perfect for watching the sun set (or rise) on the fly.
Watch for poison oak covering the trailhead.
This is another hike I do several times every year.
Make sure you take a look at the interpretive sign near the top (and stay on the trail...it explains why) to read about Native American "Spirit Quests".

Wind Mountain  Sucess!

Short and steep climb up this mountain. The trail is unmaintained and there were several trees that had fallen across the trail. It was still in very good condition and easy to follow. I finally had a clear day and could see Mount Hood and Mount St. Helens from the summit. The best views were back down toward the Columbia River Gorge.

Great little hike!!  Sucess!

I hate to say this, but I don't remember exactly when I was up here. The actual trailhead was kind of tricky to find, but it was a really nice hike to the top, with some views that put the gorge in a different perspective. I liked how for an "unmaintained" trail there was an interpretive sign concerning the Indian Pits!

I had business in The Dalles today. (Had to see a judge about a ticket. Did you know it was against the law to drink beer while rafting the Deschutes River?) Anyway, on my way home I stopped and tagged this summit. Short but aggressive. Great views.

I had some daylight left after hiking Greenleaf Peak, and decided to give this one a shot. very easy hike, that took me about an hour up and down. I saw 7 other hikers descending while I was on the way up, and got back to my truck just as it was getting dark.

Short but rewarding hike. For an "unmaintained" trail it's in really great shape!
