Looks like fun in the snow.

When I first went up there in the early 70s the upper forest was still closed Fraser Fir and Red Spruce. The paved path was completely canopied over from the parking lot to the giant spiral overlook. I should have take pix but I didn't know that the woods were going to be hit by Euopean Aphids and Acid Rain. The forest at the top was suitable for scenes from Tolkein.

You know, it's darned interesting to see changes in the forest over time. I like to make and compare mental and photo notes of places over time. In the Red River Gorge I have been climbing since 1987 and I've seen huge Impacts and changes in some areas. Some due to human impact and others due to natural selection. I find the changes I've seen over this short time amazing. I think I'd be completely blown away if I could see long-term progression in the forest

I agree Rick!
I was at the Fortrass Wall last week climbing American Crack. Being the first place you ever took me climbing I was amazed at the impact. It wasn't because of vandals, just climbers like us loving these plases to death. Somehow we are going to have to find a ballance. It was only 6 years ago that I first saw the place.
