East Ridge  Sucess!

FS-312 was washed out last year, just past the Pikes Fork-Banner Creek jct. They fixed it quick. I took the East RIdge route. As the road climbs out of Trapper Flat, it is very rough. Still snowed in before where the road meets the ridge.
I parked 200' ele. short of the ridge, and traversed the north side, under the cornice until I could gain the ridge where it melted out. Nice ridge hike. Some tricky route finding skirting around the several sub-summits. When in doubt I stayed as close to the ridge top, going east/south when necessary. Top 50' of the summit block was a ladybug hatch by the millions! I was second of the year to sign the register, first was the day before!
The burn of Trapper Flat, the ridge, entire area, is pretty extensive, so take plenty of water and start early, there's almost no shade.

First of 2016  Sucess!

My lady and I were the first to sign the register for 2016. We came up from Jennie Lake and took almost 7 hours round trip. As others have stated, there are some amazing views once you gain the ridge!

From East Ridge  Sucess!

There's more to this mountain than I had always thought - it gets a lot more respect and admiration from me now. Impressive and ruggedly beautiful peak and ridgeline. Only one other group has signed the summit register so far this year.. Now I have to get back and climb the other 4 peaks in the vicinity. Stunning views all around with surprising glacial valleys to boot - what a gift to have in Boise's backyard.

East Ridge  Sucess!

This one has been on my list for a while and it didn't disappoint. Beautiful morning hike along the east ridge. Great views of the peak on the way in, and great views of the Sawtooths on the way back. Here's a trip report and some photos.

beautiful weather  Sucess!

Walked in via Jennie Lake. Nice fall day. It was clear and cool, which was a blessing after the smoky summer. There was fresh snowfall starting about 2 miles in and I followed cougar tracks all the way to the lake and then most of the way up the ridge. I kept expecting to see it, but never did.

Seldom Visited  Sucess!

Bushwhacked up from Crooked River to nice rocky summit. Surprised to find a summit log and I was the 15th to sign it in last 10 years. Great views of the Boise Mountains and Sawtooths.
